Lap Band Nutrition

Our goal is that you eat about a third of what you used to. Always try to choose good quality foods. The Lap Band decides the quantity, you decide the quality. We want you enjoying food and living life to the fullest by reaching your goal and staying there. Remember, you are not alone. We have a nutritionist to help you and a team of professionals that will be with you every step of the way during your weight loss journey.

The five rules for eating with a Lap Band

For most people the word diet brings to mind suffering and failure, so let's talk about nutrition. The following rules will help you to succeed during your weight loss journey with the Lap Band.

  • Rule 1: Eat three times a day
  • Rule 2: Eat only solid foods
  • Rule 3: Chew thoroughly
  • Rule 4: Do not drink liquids with your meals
  • Rule 5: No high calorie liquids
By following these simple rules you WILL succeed with the Lap Band!

First month after surgery

Week 1: The first week after surgery, you will be on clear liquids and some juices by week's end.

Week 2: The second week, you can add cream broths and soups.

Week 3: The third week, hunger may be mild to moderate, so adding liquid protein (shakes) will help diminish this.

Week 4: The fourth week and beyond, we want you to eat only solid foods. From this moment on, all the 5 rules above will apply. If you find that food does not go down without getting stuck, probabilities are that you are not chewing thoroughly or you are eating too fast. You will get the hang of it with practice and the correct way of eating with the band will become second nature. You will eat less and reach fullness fast!
